UNITED NATIONS Back ground for the Establishment of the UN
For the first time in history ,weapons of modern warfare were used during the FIRST WORLD WAR (1914 -1918) which caused vast destruction and suffering . world leaders felt the need for an international organization which could prevent wars in future . with this idea in mind ,the league of nations was established in 1919 with its headquarters in Geneva ,Switzerland.
But the League of nations failed to prove strong enough to prevent the SECOND WORLD WAR (1939 – 1945). The Axis Power (Germany, Italy ,and Japan) fought against the Allied Powers ( Britain ,France , USA,USSR And China) .
The Historic Tragedy , The dropping of the atom bombs on the two cities of Japan –Hiroshima And Nagasaki – could not be prevented and these cities were left totally destroyed.
